Our Story
After almost twenty years in brand marketing, I decided I was ready to make my own cool stuff instead of spending all of my creative juice on work.
At the same time, my body slowed me down with a host of issues that confirmed my 60-plus-hour workweeks were no way to live.
I realized I was burned out, anxious, and that I needed to get back in my body and regulate my nervous system.
What followed was untethered exploration of whatever fascinated me. One of those things was the craft of hand-dipping taper candles the way folks have for centuries.
Slowing down, building a new expertise with my hands got me out of my head and into a quieter, more inspired place. It kept my focus on craft and away from the doomscroll. And a funny thing happened: the tension in my jaw disappeared.
It was as if a new window had been cut into a darkened room. Borrowed Light for the soul, if you will. Borrowed Light candles are a love letter to the slow life, to the life that creates elbow room for curiosity and exploration.

We believe the antidote for most modern despair is simple physical work (outdoors whenever possible!) that delivers real tangible results (like candles!).
Balancing physical exertion, creation and focus, it's a win. Whatever your age or whatever you do for a living, you'll feel magic happen when you get out of your head, off your phone, and work with your hands.
Our candles are always hand-dipped in small batches, not machine-made.

Healthy Over Cheap
When we started, we dabbled in all kinds of dyes, waxes and additives. Yuk! We’ve since come full circle to the basics: North American beeswax, non-toxic plant-based dyes, and natural cotton wicks. No scent beyond the natural aroma of the beeswax itself.
The result? A clean burn with ingredients you can feel good about.
